More than a detox – a metabolic reset

Dhanyamla Dhara is a specialized therapy where a warm, fermented liquid prepared from grains and herbs is continuously poured over the body. At Ayurharsha, we follow the exact fermentation protocol (7 days, 14 herbs) handed down by Dr. Ramamurthy Peteti. It is one of the most powerful treatments to liquefy and eliminate deep‑seated Kapha.

Melts excess Kapha

The warm, acidic nature of dhanyamla breaks down fat and mucus, making it ideal for obesity, high cholesterol, and sluggish metabolism.

Relieves rheumatism

Penetrates deep into joints and muscles, reducing stiffness, pain, and inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Skin firming & glow

Dhanyamla exfoliates dead cells, improves microcirculation, and leaves the skin smooth, firm, and radiant – a natural treatment for cellulite.

Detox at tissue level

The fermentation process creates enzymes and acids that dissolve ma (toxins) lodged in the deeper dhatus, promoting cellular regeneration.

Your Dhanyamla Dhara journey

1

Poorva: Abhyanga & Swedana

A gentle warm oil massage (usually with Ksheerabala) followed by herbal steam to open pores and direct toxins toward the gastrointestinal tract.

2

Pradhana: Dhara with Dhanyamla

Therapists pour lukewarm dhanyamla continuously over the body in a rhythmic stream for 45–60 minutes. The liquid is collected and reused, maintaining constant temperature.

3

Paschat: Rest & diet

After the therapy you rest for 30 minutes. A light kitchari meal and warm water are advised. The treatment is typically done in a series of 7, 14 or 21 days.

Each session includes fresh dhanyamla prepared in‑house using our second‑generation fermentation starter.

“My father, Dr. Ramamurthy, spent years standardizing the fermentation time and herb ratio for dhanyamla. He would say: ‘The right sourness is the key – too little won’t penetrate, too much irritates.’ We still use his 14‑herb formula.

— Dr. Sambasiva Rao Peteti (3rd generation)

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is dhanyamla?
A sour, medicated liquid obtained by fermenting grains (like rice, barley) with a specific set of 14 herbs – we prepare it fresh every week.
Is it painful?
Not at all. The liquid is warm and the pouring is soothing. Some feel a mild tingling if the skin is very congested, but it’s generally pleasant.
Can I do it if I am Vata/Pitta?
It is primarily for Kapha disorders, but when modified with cooling herbs, it can benefit Pitta as well. Dr. Sambasiva will assess.
How many sessions are needed?
For weight loss or rheumatism, a minimum of 7 consecutive sessions is recommended. Maximum benefit often comes after 14 days.
