Shirodhara (shi-ro-dha-ra) is one of Ayurveda's most revered therapies. At Ayurharsha we follow the precise method handed down by our grandfather Dr. Lakshmaiah Sharma, using oils infused with herbs like Brahmi, Sarpagandha and Chandana.
The rhythmic flow synchronises brain waves, reducing cortisol and inducing a state similar to deep meditation. Ideal for anxiety, overthinking and stress.
Shirodhara is highly effective for insomnia and disturbed sleep patterns. It nourishes the nervous system and helps you fall asleep naturally.
By balancing prana vata, it improves vision, memory and concentration. Many guests report mental clarity and enhanced creativity after a session.
The warmth and herbs strengthen the nerve endings, making it beneficial for headaches, migraine, hypertension and mild depression.
Dr. Sambasiva examines your pulse and selects the ideal oil – e.g. Ksheerabala for vata, Brahmi for mental fatigue, or a custom blend with 14 herbs.
You lie on a comfortable table while a special vessel swings gently, pouring a thin, continuous stream of warm oil onto your forehead. The therapist adjusts the speed and temperature to your comfort.
After 30‑45 minutes of dhara, you rest with a warm towel to allow the oil to penetrate. A gentle head, neck and shoulder massage may follow.
Duration: 60–75 minutes | Best experienced as a series of 7, 14 or 21 days for deep results.
“My grandfather used to say that Shirodhara is like a gentle rain washing away the dust of the mind. We still prepare the oil the same way – with 21 herbs, cooked under the full moon.
— Dr. Sambasiva Rao Peteti (3rd generation)
