What is Kati Vasti

Kati Vasti is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment for back pain and spinal disorders. Warm medicated oil is pooled over the sacral region (kati) for a specific duration, allowing deep penetration of herbs into the vertebral column. At Ayurharsha, we follow the precise technique handed down by Dr. Lakshmaiah Sharma, using oils infused with lineage‑specific bhasmas.

Relieves chronic pain

Ideal for lower backache, sciatica, herniated discs, and degenerative spine conditions. The warmth and herbs pacify aggravated vata and reduce inflammation.

Strengthens the spine

Nourishes the bones (asthi dhatu) and improves flexibility. Regular Kati Vasti can prevent recurrence of back issues and support overall spinal health.

Deeply relaxing

The gentle heat calms the nervous system, easing stress and muscle tension. Many patients experience a profound sense of relaxation during the therapy.

Non‑invasive & natural

No surgery, no injections – just pure herbal oils and the healing touch of experienced therapists, following a 100‑year lineage.

Your Kati Vasti journey at Ayurharsha

1

Consultation & oil selection

Dr. Sambasiva examines your pulse and assesses the condition. He selects the appropriate oil – e.g., Ksheerabala, Dhanwantaram, or a custom blend with bhasma infusions.

2

Preparation & oil pooling

A dough dam is created over the lower back. Warm medicated oil is poured and maintained at a constant temperature for 30–45 minutes while you lie comfortably.

3

Rest & follow‑up

After the oil is removed, the area is gently massaged. You rest for a while, allowing the oil to penetrate. A course of 7–14 sessions is typically recommended.

Duration: 45–60 minutes | Usually advised in a series of 7, 14 or 21 days.

“My grandfather, Dr. Lakshmaiah, used to treat even the most stubborn back pain with Kati Vasti alone. He would say, ‘Let the spine drink the oil – it will remember its strength.’ We still prepare the oil the same way, with herbs cooked for two days.

— Dr. Sambasiva Rao Peteti (3rd generation)
