A therapy that pours vitality into every cell

Pizhichil (also known as Thaila Dhara) is one of the most luxurious and effective treatments in Ayurveda. At Ayurharsha, we follow the precise technique handed down by our grandfather Dr. Lakshmaiah Sharma – warm oil cascading in a steady stream, synchronized massage, and deep tissue nourishment.

Vata pacification

Ideal for arthritis, neuralgia, and degenerative disorders. The continuous warmth and oil penetrate deep, soothing aggravated vata and lubricating joints.

Muscle rejuvenation

Strengthens and tones muscles, relieves stiffness, and improves flexibility. Often recommended for athletes and those with muscle wasting (mamsa kshaya).

Deep tissue nourishment

The herbal oils (e.g. Ksheerabala, Dhanwantaram) are absorbed by the skin, reaching the deeper dhatus (tissues) and promoting overall vitality.

Nervine calmative

The rhythmic pouring and massage induce a meditative state, reducing stress, anxiety, and promoting restful sleep. A true reset for the nervous system.

Your Pizhichil journey at Ayurharsha

1

Pulse diagnosis & oil selection

Dr. Sambasiva assesses your nadi and condition. Based on that, he selects the ideal oil – e.g. Ksheerabala for vata disorders, Mahanarayana for joints, or a custom blend.

2

Warm oil stream & massage

You lie on a special wooden table. Two therapists pour warm oil in a continuous, gentle stream while simultaneously massaging the body. The oil is kept at a constant soothing temperature.

3

Absorption & steam

After the session, you rest for 20–30 minutes allowing the oil to penetrate. A mild herbal steam (swedana) may follow to enhance detoxification and oil absorption.

Duration: 60–90 minutes | Typically given in a series of 7, 14 or 21 days for maximum benefit.

“My grandfather used to say: Pizhichil is like rain on parched earth – it brings life back to every tissue. We still prepare the oil the same way, cooking it for 48 hours with 14 herbs.

— Dr. Sambasiva Rao Peteti (3rd generation)

Pizhichil is especially known for:

  • Arthritis & joint pain
  • Neurological disorders (sciatica, paralysis)
  • Chronic fatigue & muscle wasting
  • Stress, anxiety, insomnia
  • Post‑sports recovery / rejuvenation

We use classical oils like Ksheerabala, Dhanwantaram, Mahanarayana, or special blends prepared in‑house following Dr. Ramamurthy’s puta method.
Is it suitable for everyone?
Pizhichil is excellent for vata and pitta types, but a thorough consultation ensures it fits your current state. Not recommended during acute fever or severe infection.
How many sessions are needed?
For deep healing, a minimum of 7 consecutive days is ideal. Many guests opt for 14 or 21 days for chronic conditions.
